How can traveling be about sharing ourselves with the people and places we visit?
I was born in Taipei and grew up in New York. Living in Paris, Beijing, Berlin, Ghent, and now Brooklyn - I’ve worked in fashion at Vanity Fair and photography at Interview Magazine, and exhibition planning for the artist Ai Weiwei. Over the last 14 years, I co-founded the interior design firm DIRT Design based on Shelter Island, NY. As a lifelong traveler, I’m constantly exploring how we can journey responsibly with genuine curiosity to share ourselves with the people and places we visit.
Hi, I’m Lucas
What is Curio
CURIO is a place where we let curiosity lead us. It is an invitation to consider ways to (re)learn how to be an engaged and responsible traveler.
To leave home is a privilege and a unique opportunity for exploring ourselves by breaking free from our mundane daily responsibilities. Why not use this sacred time to deeply connect with the people and places that foster this (re)connection?
Every life is a marvel because it is fleeting. In the words of the beloved poet Mary Oliver:
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”
What We Do
Retreats
(Re)connect with your inner self via themed guided retreats and meet local creatives who open their homes and ateliers to share their life’s passion.
Travel Planning
We handle every detail of your trip, creating personalized itineraries that center meaningful connections to people and place.
Community
We host virtual and in-person events to maintain connection and inspiration long after you have returned safely home.
Ethos
We know that travel has environmental and social consequences. Long-haul flights cannot currently be made climate-neutral without exorbitant cost. Instead of making offset claims that don’t hold up, CURIO contributes to aviation decarbonization and permanent carbon removal for each journey.
We support Sustainable Aviation Fuel to reduce future fossil fuel use and Durable Carbon Removal technologies that permanently remove CO₂ from the atmosphere. These contributions do not “erase” flight emissions, but they represent a science-aligned approach to climate responsibility in travel today.
Our SAF partner is SkyNRG based in Amsterdam and our DCR partner is Zurich-based Climeworks.
Travel can also be prohibitively expensive and out of reach for many. We donate 3% of our profits to AFS Intercultural Programs which offers international school exchange and intercultural learning around the world. Our clients are encouraged to match our donations.
We offer complete transparency and believe that educating ourselves and our travelers helps contribute towards a more responsible travel landscape.
